I've always believed that education is a lifelong process. Fortunately, we're able to access learning materials so easily nowadays. Sites like Coursera, Skillshare, Udemy, offer courses in almost anything, from computer programming to writing to cooking and all it costs is a few hours a week and our own motivation. Here is why you should never stop learning:

IF YOU DON’T USE IT, YOU LOSE IT
Keeping your brain engaged by learning new tasks and skills is one of the best ways to keep your mind agile. There is evidence that keeping your mind active also helps to fight dementia and brain ageing. It also helps you to keep up with the younger and more competitive generation.

GIVE YOUR CONFIDENCE A BOOST
I personally feel more confident after I’ve achieved something. I believe learning new skills not only helps me to approach problems from a different angle, but it also helps me to be more creative, which is really important in my work because that means I am able to create better content. When you’re accustomed to learning new things you’re also becoming more adaptable to change, meaning you can easily take any changes in any situation.

For me, most of my work is done online. On top of content creation, I also have to know how to effectively advertise and analyze data. Here are 3 online channels that I am currently using to improve my digital skills:

1. Google Academy for Ads

Social media and websites go hand-in-hand with analytics. Many companies and businesses use Google AdWords to market themselves and Google Analytics to track their marketing efforts. To be honest, I find it very confusing to navigate through due to it's complexity, because I am not sure which button to click. Not to mention, it is also often integrated with other channels.  Google Academy for Ads helps me to keep up to date with the latest changes and terms on top of helping me to better understand each and every feature. Once you've studied for the class of your choice, you would need to take an exam. You would get a certificate once you've pass. The certificated usually expires after one year though. You would need to re-take the exam to extend the certificate. So far I've had the Google Ads Mobile Certification, Google Ads Display Certification and Google Ads Fundamentals Award.

If you are a new graduate and are looking for a digital marketing job, you can try to impress your future employers by scoring yourself some of these certificate! I would recommend taking something under Google Analytics. Remember - it is FREE.

2. Justin Odisho Youtube Channel

When I was just starting out with Premiere Pro last year, Justin Odisho's Youtube Channel helped me a lot. I wanted to create awesome Youtube videos but I had zero skill in editing videos. Now I can edit in Premiere Pro without being confused lol

3. FREECODECAMP.ORG

I've recently started to feel guilty of not learning how to code when I was still in my Blogger days. Back then, having a blog layout was not as simple as now because we had to code part of our template for it to appear exactly how we want it. The drag and drop options available now have spoiled me too much and I did not pursue coding after that. So much regrets. Now, I am trying to make up for lost time. Fortunately, I stumbled upon freecodecamp.org that helps beginners learn how to code. I'm still in the early stages, as you can see from the photo, I am building a 'CatPhotoApp' lol. Cats motivate me so I hope I can finish the course in the next 3-4 months. The end goal of this is to create a specific app that would make my life easier.

On another note, there is an organisation that's called Women Who Code Kuala Lumpur that conducts workshops, talks and sharing session on coding. Check it out! Maybe we can bump into each other at one of their events in the future.
