Top 5 Apps to Enhance Your Instagram Stories

Top 5 Apps to Enhance Your Instagram Stories

June 10, 2018

Ever since Instagram Stories launched in the middle of 2016, it has become more and more popular. Features like live videos, Instagram Story Highlights, and adding hashtag links in the stories, it's the perfect creative outlet. Yes, Instagram basically stole Snapchat's idea but they managed to scale it so effectively it's hard to not love it! A lot of brands are advertising on the feature, and if they aren't, they are missing out. For example, Instagram has enabled users to include external links in their stories where viewers can Swipe Up to know more the product. On top of that, users can also view instagram stories by location without even following the person posting it (as long as they use the geo-tagging option in the stories) and add quirky GIFs which makes the platform a really fun and easy way to discover new things.

I love Instagram Stories. Recently, I conducted a "garage sale" for my secondhand clothes on Stories and it was a success! I sold over 20 items in a span of 4 hours. I couldn't have done it without a few trusty apps. In this post, I will introduce to you 5 apps to help you enhance your Instagram Stories.

 Unfold App

1. Unfold (Photos & Videos)

This app is THE app for Instagram Stories right now (2018). I used this app for my Instagram Garage Sale and got a ton of messages from people asking about what app I used. You can add both photo and video in one insta story through their templates and even add a text in it. It looks very professional. The app is free to use and download but the catch is that you have to pay for the really good templates. I paid for every version there is and I think I spent around RM20 (I don't really remember). Think its a really good price to pay if you are serious about your content on Instagram Stories. Even IF you are on a budget and don't want to spend any more on apps, this is still a good app nonetheless.

Over App

2. Over (Photos)

Over is a good app to do some freestyle designing on your Instagram Stories. The only thing about this app is that it doesn't have any feature for videos, which is sad for me because I like this app a lot because there are no templates to restrict you. This app is mostly free, except for some PRO images or PRO fonts that you have to pay for. I have never paid for any feature here. I mostly use this to add side-by-side pictures so I can do polls on Insta Stories (yes, did I tell you, you can do polls?? So awesome. I love that feature) and I also love to use the app to do photo collages. In addition, I also like to use this app to create announcements with cute fonts (Instagram fonts are great but I do get easily bored of seeing the same thing all the time).

Canva App

3. Canva (Photos)

Canva is like a combination of Unfold and Over whereby you can edit the images and words with it but there is no feature for videos. It's not just used for just Instagram Stories but also for other digital assets like posters, flyers, invitation, Youtube art covers, Twitter headers and more! I love that it has a lot of designs and templates to choose from without paying them and its pretty easy to use. The only downside is that you have to log in everytime you close the app, which is annoying to me. But if you don't mind that, it's a good app. You can download it here.

Lightroom CC App

4. Lightroom CC (Photos)

This app is not just for Instagram Stories, but it's for your whole digital photos. This has become my number one app to edit photos with and I am so in love with it. And it's free! Not sure for Android users? Do let me know. I usually post up 'Tap to Edit' stories and its all thanks to this baby! It might look difficult to navigate but if you take a day to just explore, you might just get used to it. I am coming up with a course on this, please let me know in the comments section if you are interested.

Splice App

5. Splice (Video)

Splice is an app that I've used for two years now. I even made my whole New Zealand video with it (This was before I had any good cameras and only filmed with my iPhone 6)! This app really helps me to scale the video according to my needs. Sometimes I want to show my followers a video that I've taken using my camera. The problem is that it is usually in landscape format and Instagram Stories is well..in portrait. This is where Splice comes in! When I open a new file, I will set it to portrait orientation, insert the video and scale the video so that it fits the portrait in the position that I want.

As an iPhone user, sometimes I find that I can't upload videos that I've taken using the phone camera to Instagram Stories. Some videos will cause the app to crash! Fortunately, all I have to do is to upload the video on Splice and save it and it's good to be uploaded again! In addition to these cool features, another good thing about splice is that you can add multiple videos in one insta story (provided it can fit into that 15 second slot). You can add texts, filters, control the speed of the video, add music and more to your Instagram or Insta Story video.
