On my recent trip back to my hometown, I had the chance to visit the Dragon Pearl Beach Resort in Kampung Mangkabar, Kota Belud. Don’t expect a post like The Kasturi, Cherating post because this is a different type of resort compared to that.
This is a much cheaper way to spend time at the beach, that means it’s perfect for families and also backpackers. Since it’s quite close to my grandmother’s house, and because we did not have enough time, we only spent a few hours there instead of staying overnight. Even so, I got a good look at the place and even noted down the price of all the activities for my dear readers.
How Do We Get There?
The only way I know for people to get there is by driving, I’m not sure if there is any public transportation here. You might want to ring them up. The road is bumpy so it helps to have a four wheel drive but I saw someone drove in with their Perodua Axia car so its possible.
There are two entrance to this place, this is the main one. See the little hut there? It’s where you will have to register yourself and pay the entrance fees. It’s also where you can ask about all the activities. Nearby, you can see a staircase leading to another hut where you can overlook the whole place from above and also get a gorgeous view of the sea. It’s a little hot though but at least there is a roof.
The second entrance will have this sign.
What's The Food Like?
This is the view from the little hut above the staircase near the registration counter. See the building on the left? That is Pearl Cafe, where you can order food and drinks.
This is what it looks like inside, just a simple restaurant. When I first came here, I thought it was closed because I didn’t see anyone there but you have to press the “doorbell” and someone will assist you. The price here is a typical “island price”, I only ordered iced Milo and it costs RM6. Alternatively, you can bring your own food. I didn’t get a chance to try their food though.

What Kind of Activities Are There? What's the Price Like?
Fun fact: They say that the reason why the place is called Dragon Pearl is because it is shaped like a Dragon’s Mouth and the tiny island in the middle which is also called Pulau Pandan or Pandan Island is the ‘Pearl’. The beach is the main attraction here, you can go swimming, kayaking or just lay on the hammock to relax. I also saw a surfboard there but I didn’t see any waves, I guess it just depends on the day..it would be nice to go surfing again though. You can view the full list of activities and price HERE but below is a simple list of the main activities you can find there.
As usual, my reusable insulated water bottle goes with me everywhere. Not today dehydration! Not today.
How About Accommodations..What are They Like?
I didn't get a chance to stay in the accommodation as it was just a day trip for my family and I. There are a few options to choose from but I heard the treehouse is a really popular option! I forgot to take a photo though, sorry. There is also a few beach hut situated right in front of the beach, it also has a clothing line where you could hang your clothes. It's really tiny so it's just the room inside without toilet or shower room (there is a sharing toilet and shower place outside). For groups, you can also opt for the long house accommodation option.
